This document addresses the wide range of physical effects—with serious implications for investors and businesses—that climate change has already started to cause. It is designed as a guide to help chart a course for companies to disclose and manage risks, acknowledging that companies are already experiencing business impacts from weather-related phenomena that climate change is expected to make more common and/or intense.
The document provides: (i) publicly-traded companies with detailed and specific guidance on physical climate risk disclosure and risk management steps; and (ii) investors with guidance on the types of information they should expect of companies to manage portfolio risks related to physical climate change impacts. It is also aimed to be used by the public and policymakers seeking to better understand the critical issues concerning physical climate risks and strategies to adapt to, prepare for, and become more resilient to climate impacts.
